Returns & Refunds Policy

Because this is UK online retail, you have statutory cancellation rights on eligible orders. Because this is Voracious Club, you are also buying individually graded books, and the condition they are returned in matters.

This policy explains both things at once: your legal rights, and the practical standard we expect when books come back to us.

The sharp version

Short version: you have 14 days from delivery to cancel, without giving a reason. If your order has already been posted, return postage is yours, and returned books must come back in the same graded condition they left us in.

1. Your 14-day cancellation right

If you buy from us online as a consumer, you generally have the legal right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods, for any reason, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

To exercise that right, tell us within the 14-day period that you want to cancel. You don't have to give a reason, and there is no cancellation fee. Once you have told us, return the goods promptly and in any event within 14 days.

The quickest way is online. Signed in, open the order under Account → Orders. Checked out as a guest? Use the link in your order confirmation email, or ask for a new link.

  • Not yet dispatched: choose “Cancel order”. If we haven't printed the postage label, the order is cancelled straight away and everything you paid, including delivery, is refunded to your original payment method. If the label is already printed, your cancellation is sent to us and we'll confirm by email.
  • Already dispatched or delivered: choose “Request a return”, pick the books, and we'll email you the return address. You can add your tracking or proof-of-posting number to the return.

You can also cancel by using the contact form on the Contact Us page, replying to your order confirmation email, or using the model cancellation wording below. Include your order number where possible.

2. Returned condition matters

Books must be returned in the exact graded condition in which they were supplied. That matters because our inventory is individually graded and priced accordingly.

If a copy sent out as The Vault (Unread) comes back read, creased, marked, or otherwise diminished, we may make a deduction from the refund to reflect the loss in value caused by handling beyond what is necessary to inspect the item.

The same principle applies to all grades. Reasonable inspection is fine. Turning the book into a more worn copy than the one we sent out is not.

3. Return postage

If your order has already been posted, return postage is yours. You can use any carrier. Please keep your proof of posting: a free certificate of posting from the Post Office or your drop-off receipt is enough.

If a book was misgraded, incorrect, incomplete or damaged in transit, the problem is ours: use “Report a problem” on your order instead (this is available after the 14 days too). We will work with you on the appropriate remedy and pay for any return, either with a prepaid label or by reimbursing reasonable return postage.

4. Faults, transit damage, and grading disputes

If your order arrives damaged, incorrect, incomplete, or materially below its listed grade, contact us as soon as possible with your order number and clear photographs of the issue, the packaging, and the shipping label if relevant.

We grade strictly so you can buy confidently. If we get it wrong, we will review the case and make it right in line with your consumer rights and the stock available.

5. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015

Where a book you receive is faulty, not as described, or otherwise does not conform to the contract, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you a tiered set of remedies on top of the 14-day cancellation right above.

  1. Short-term right to reject (within 30 days of delivery). If the book is faulty or not as described, you can reject it and ask for a full refund within 30 days of receiving it.
  2. Right to repair or replacement. After 30 days, you can ask for a replacement copy (where one is available) or, where appropriate, a repair, at no cost to you. This is one chance for us to put things right.
  3. Right to price reduction or final right to reject. If a repair or replacement fails, is impossible, or is disproportionate, you can ask for a price reduction or a final refund. A reasonable deduction may be made for any use you have had of the book in some cases after the first six months.

Because much of our stock is one-off, used, or graded, a like-for-like replacement may not always be possible. Where that is the case, we will discuss the next appropriate remedy with you. These statutory rights are in addition to, and do not replace, the 14-day cancellation right above.

6. Refund timing

Where a refund is due, we will process it using the original payment method unless we agree otherwise. For cancelled orders returned under the 14-day rule, we will refund the standard purchase price and the least expensive standard outbound delivery option you paid for, where applicable.

We will make the refund within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or within 14 days of receiving evidence that you have sent the goods back, whichever is earlier. We recommend obtaining a free certificate of posting or tracking receipt from the Post Office or courier drop-off point as evidence of return.

If you chose a premium delivery method rather than standard delivery, we do not have to refund the extra premium delivery cost unless the item was faulty, incorrect, damaged, or materially misdescribed.

7. Model cancellation wording

You may use this wording, but you do not have to. Send it through the Contact Us page or reply to your order confirmation email.

8. Complaints and alternative dispute resolution (ADR)

If we cannot resolve a complaint between us, you may be entitled to refer the dispute to an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider. ADR is an independent service that helps consumers and traders settle disputes without going to court.

We are not currently a member of an ADR scheme but will engage in good faith with any approved UK ADR provider you choose to use. You can also contact Citizens Advice or the Chartered Trading Standards Institute for guidance on your options.
